Susquehanna has been holding the Day of Writing for high school juniors and seniors for the past twenty years. This year, IHA became a part of that tradition. The university offers a major in creative writing, and produces no fewer than six different literary magazines a year, one of which accepts submissions from only high school students across the country.
After a welcome by the charismatic Writing Program director, Dr. Glen Retief, there was a morning plenary session wherein professors and students read from their work. Students then attended workshop sessions where they explored their chosen writing field. Some of the sessions offered were: Novel, Short Story, Poetry, Memoir, Screenwriting, Journalism, Sports Journalism, and College Writing.
IHA students were able to submerge themselves in the writing process for a day, and enjoy the serene setting Susquehanna has to offer.
