Ms. Lia Kunnapas '09 is among 24 coaches across the United States named as NFHS National Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 school year. The 24 category winners are based on the most participated boys and girls sports across the NFHS membership, which includes various sports, including swimming, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and softball.
In reference to Coach Lia's accomplishment, NFHS stated, "This award designates you among the most elite coaches in the country, as well as the state and sectional coach of the year for your sport. You should be proud of your contributions to your sport, school, and community! You were specifically nominated by your state high school athletic/activity association to receive this award."
Coach Lia received this incredible honor based not just on her coaching performance in the 2023-24 school year but also on her history as a coach, school and community involvement, and philosophy of coaching. She was also recently selected as New Jersey Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools Coaches Association for girls swimming in the 2023-24 school year.
NFHS, in collaboration with its member state associations and the NFHS Coaches Association Advisory Committee, recognizes coaches at the state, sectional, and national levels.
